CASTLEGAR YOUTH ACTION NETWORK
Who we are
The Castlegar Youth Council is a new and emergent program founded in part by Columbia Basin Trust’s regionally distributed youth funding initiatives, and the Vancouver Foundation. This community initiative is one of many programs within the Castlegar and District Community Services. A non-profit agency that provides support to members of the community in a manner which respects the rights of all members of the community to achieve their potential in the society in which they live.
The youth council welcomes youth and community involvement in many forms. The council has a number of committed youth members as well as adult community members who share and offer ideas, suggestions and support in the youth led, activity and event planning process.
Youth on the council meet about once a week to plan and prepare for events and activities, share ideas and brainstorm future possibilities. All local youth ages 12-19 are welcome to apply for council membership, and/or attend activities and events. Youth are encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas and visions with the group or coordinator.
The youth council welcomes input, thoughts, questions, suggestions from parents, educators and other interested adults within the community.
To lead a collabourative, strengths based and coordinated response to address and acknowledge the importance of creating pathways and opportunities for youth, and by addressing the needs of youth living in the Castlegar and District area.
The vision of this program is that the Castlegar and District area will be a progressive youth focused community, providing services, activities and resources for youth of all ages, abilities, cultures and economic statuses.
