Children Who Witness Violence Counselling

Funded by The Ministry of Justice:

CWWA program delivers counseling services to children who witnessed violence  or directly experienced violence in their lives.  The goal of the CWWA program is to interrupt the cycle of violence, provide healthy ways to deal with conflict, to be able to identify healthier ways of relating, and to strengthen a positive regard for self and others.

Counselor employs art and play therapy to achieve these goals. Children have a natural affinity for art-making. In the younger years, they play in metaphors, which is why art is a common way for them to express feelings. Children who have experienced a trauma have limited ability to reason with their feelings, and find language to describe what has happened and how it affects them.’
